CANFIELD, Ohio - The Canfield 4th of July Committee has announced the cancellation of the annual Independence Day parade, Firecracker Run, kids' games and fireworks.

"This was not an easy decision to make," said Enid Maldonado, Committee Chair. "Our committee members brought up valid points for continuing our tradition as well as foregoing this year's celebration. In the end, the concern for our community's safety prevailed. We look forward to a larger celebration in 2021."

Second Sole, the organizer of the Firecracker Fun Run, still has tentative plans to hold a 4-mile race, either virtually or physically, if possible.

Once plans are finalized Second Sole will provide more details.

The annual fireworks display was also being planned in conjunction with a Monster Truck show produced by Joe Sylvester.

Joe's show is also being canceled, but with the promise of debuting next year.

"I hate having to cancel this year's inaugural event. I was planning a killer show and was excited to combine it with an American tradition," said Sylvester.

The committee is preparing a video montage of past parades that will be able to be viewed on their website at www.canfield4thofjuly.com, as well on their Facebook page.

While committee members say they will miss seeing people enjoying the honor guard, veterans, first responders, bands, local businesses, floats and antique cars that make up the parade, they urge everyone to celebrate with their families and stay safe.
