Two people and their dog escaped a fire in Boardman Sunday evening.

It happened on Sugartree Drive just before 6 p.m.

Fire officials told 21 News at the scene that the blaze started in the back of the home and the house next door suffered some minor damage.

The smoke was so high, plumes of black smoke could be seen from the 21 News weather camera over Route 224 and Market Street.

It took two minutes for the Boardman Fire Department to get to the scene and only six minutes for crews to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
