WARREN, Ohio -  Warren City Council this week will consider a resolution declaring racism as a public health crisis in the city.

Following a similar resolution adopted last week by Youngstown City Council, Warren council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to consider a measure to commit the city's attention to improving the life and health of minority residents.

The resolution calls for addressing "minority health inequities, including a systematic, data-driven focus on poverty, economic mobility that impact the social determinants of health in the city of Warren."

Requested as emergency legislation by council members Helen Rucker and Cheryl Saffold, the resolution comes in the aftermath of nationwide reaction to the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis Police officer.

Warren has been the site of two Black Lives Matter protests over the past weeks.

Democrats in the Ohio House have also proposed legislation declaring racism a public health issue.

Warren City Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday to consider the resolution which may be viewed below:
