Canfield Fair cancellation to impact several area businesses

CANFIELD, Ohio -
The Canfield Fair brings tens-of-thousands of people to the area each year and with the event canceled there will be an impact on some local businesses.
We already know it's been a tough year for food and fair vendors with so many events cancelled, and now, the Canfield Fair is just the latest to be added to the list.
But, beyond the gates of the fair there is a ripple effect felt to businesses.
"It is going to have a huge impact on the community, because it brings in a lot of money," said business owner Michal Naffah.
Naffah owns a couple area hotels, and several area restaurants. He says the bigger impact will be to his hotel business.
The Hampton Inn in Canfield is the host-hotel for the fair and fills up each year.
"It's going to hurt us personally, but again the health of our community and of all of our customers and people coming to visit the fair is much more important than finances," said Naffah.
And beyond the traditional businesses, the fair brings extra cash to some local families.
The Dellapenna's have been letting cars pay to park on their property near the fairgrounds for nearly 35 years.
"And how much money do we make? Well, one year I bought a washing machine," said Shari Dellapenna.
The husband and wife say they can fit about 100 cars on their properties at one time.
"We usually have about 10 or 11 students that work for us, very nice young people, 14 years-old or older," said Ron Dellapenna. "We carried insurances to cover if anybody got hurt and thankfully no one has over the years."
Another potential financial impact could be to the fair itself.
The Canfield Fair currently has an ongoing capital campaign to help pay for some new buildings on the fairgrounds. The board is hoping this cancelation doesn't hurt that fundraising effort.
