Speeds reach 120 mph in Austintown police chase

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A Warren woman faces charges after Austintown police say she led them on a 100-mph plus chase that ended only after an officer flattened her tires.
According to a police report, 59-year-old Pamela Yeager is hospitalized under observation following her arrest on Interstate 80 early Tuesday.
Police say they tried to pull over Yeager’s Mercedes-Benz SUV after someone tipped them off that she was driving away from a Westchester Drive address while she was allegedly intoxicated.
The report says the SUV continued traveling from Mahoning Avenue, north on State Route 11, despite the police cruiser’s lights and sirens behind her.
The SUV stopped on the ramp from Route 11 to I-80 westbound. However, officers say Yeager refused to get out of the SUV and began driving again.
Spiked “stop strips” that an officer had placed under the rear tires failed to slow the SUV down. Police say they had to drive 120 miles per hour to keep up with the SUV.
An officer placed the second set of stop strips flattened the front tires of the SUV, which was forced to stop just before the Meander Reservoir.
Austintown police, who were now joined by a state trooper, says Yeager still refused to get out of the car.
As one officer cut her seat belt and others pulled her out of the SUV, police say Yeager slapped one officer in the head and kicked another.
Police say they were unable to administer a field sobriety test and took Yeager to the hospital for observation.
Yeager has been charged with resisting arrest, failure to comply with police, and assault on a police officer.
