The Public Libary of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) will celebrate the life and legacy of Reuben McMillan with a live-streamed event on Facebook on October 7 at 1:30 p.m.

This year will mark his 200th anniversary of McMillan's birth. Reuben was born on October 7, 1820, in Canfield. He was a school superintendent and one of the library's founding fathers.

October is a special month for the library, as it was officially incorporated as the Youngstown Library Association on October 27, 1880. That association name was changed to the Reuben McMillan Free Library Association on March 5, 1898, to honor McMillan, who passed away on June 23 of that year. You can see his name etched in the limestone on the face of the Main Library on 305 Wick Ave.

The live-streamed event will focus on Reuben McMillan's history and legacy, how the main renovation follows in his footsteps in ways he could have not imagined 200 years ago, a capital campaign for the Main Library Renovation Project, and an upcoming public service area within the Main Library to serve patrons while construction is underway.

A video that will detail the life of Reuben McMillan will be available on October 7, on the Library's website: HERE
