Police: Homemade explosives found in Youngstown home

YOUNGSTOWN - An investigation is underway after Youngstown police found homemade explosives inside a home on the city's south side.
Youngstown police found the devices Monday at a home on the 2800 block of Hillman Street. The adult parole authority had requested officers to assist in a home visit to 51-year-old Oliver Smith. Officials were there because Smith violated his community control out of Portage County, which prohibited Smith from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
Youngstown police found multiple homemade explosive devices in the basement and master bedroom, according to a police report. The Youngstown bomb squad was called to the scene to remove the devices. Officials also found a revolver with a suppressor attached, a pistol, a muzzleloader and multiple rounds of ammunition, the report stated.
Smith has since been booked into the Mahoning County Jail. His booking charge is listed as having weapons while under disability.
After the search on Monday, FBI agents were spotted at the Hillman Street home Wednesday. An FBI spokesperson would only confirm that agents were at the home.
