Beginning Saturday, Feb. 20 through April 3, Giant Eagle customers can help provide food to those in need by donating $1, $5 or $10 at all Giant Eagle locations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The donation will be added to their grocery bill.

"Giant Eagle stores in our community raised almost $111,000 through Check Out Hunger's original end date of April 17, 2020, which enabled the Food Bank to provide 667,069 meals. We simply could not do what we do without the ongoing support of great friends like Giant Eagle," said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank.

"Due to the pandemic, the Giant Eagle stores continued to collect donations at the checkout. Our local stores have raised over $175,000 additional dollars providing 1,050,000 more meals in the Mahoning Valley."

Harvest for Hunger, one of the largest annual, community-wide food and funds drives, takes place in 21 counties in Northeast Ohio during February, March and April this year.

The campaign is a collaborative effort of four food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, and Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

All funds raised and food collected in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties will remain in local communities.
