McDonald girls hoops: "Knew final four was a possibility"

It's been 30 years since a McDonald girls basketball team played in the state final four.
That changes Thursday when the Blue Devils (23-2) play Waterford (20-6) in the Division IV semi finals at the University of Dayton.
"It means everything to me, to us because it's been our goal since fourth grade," said senior Sophia Constantino.
The Blue Devils worked their way through the lower levels and that's when the continuity began.
"We were winning tournaments in fourth and fifth grade at the YMCA and said when we get to high school we want to make it to state," added Taylor Tuchek, one of seven seniors on the roster.
The reality of being in the final four is starting to sink in.
"It's crazy just thinking about that," said Lucia Wolford, "we worked really hard to get here and I'm so proud of all my teammates."
Win or lose the Blue Devils have put themselves in exclusive company .
"There are memories that we'll never forget, said Molly Howard, "I wouldn't want to have anyone else by myside. I'm grateful and thankful for this team."
Coach Tony Matisi in his his 28th season, but first with McDonald, and knew it could be a special season after they were knocked out the tournament last season at the regional level.
"Its half joke and half truth, but they don't need a coach. Throw the ball out there and I'm positive they would've done just as well, he said.
Thursday's game tips off at 2:00 pm. The winner advances to the state championship game, Saturday against 10:45 am against the winner of Convoy Crestview ( 23-3) and Fort Laramie (27-1) semi final.
