Toddler wanders Boardman motel, grandmother charged

A Youngstown woman has pleaded not guilty to child endangering after police say they found her two-year-old granddaughter wandering through a Boardman motel at 2:30 a.m.
An employee called police early Thursday after finding the toddler, dressed in a nightgown, on an elevator at the Red Roof Inn.
Police were not sure where the girl came from until another employee told them the child had been staying on the fourth floor.
An officer went to the room, where 35-year-old Keyatta Riley first said she believed all the children were there. However, after checking further, she discovered that her grandchild was not there.
The children’s mother told police she had been visiting a friend in another room.
Police say they found that one of the children was groggy after drinking from a bottle of cough syrup. An ambulance took the child to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Riley was arrested for child endangering and placed in a police cruiser. According to the police report, Riley repeatedly kicked the cruiser door, damaging it.
In addition to the child endangering charge, Riley was booked into the county jail on a charge of vandalism.
Riley pleaded not guilty and was freed on bond. She faces another court hearing next month.
