Former Sebring babysitter sentenced for injuring child
A Sebring woman who ran a babysitting service out of her home has been sentenced after one of the children in her care was injured.
Debra Suggett, 67, was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier to one count of child endangering.
Sebring Police charged Suggett in November 2019 during an investigation into a babysitting service she operated in the basement of her Ohio Street home.
Two parents took the child to the hospital after noticing bruises and welts on his buttocks after bringing the child home from the babysitter. The parents then called the police.
Suggett told police she was caring for six children, ages two to four at her home at the time.
She admitted accidentally dropping the child but suggested that the injuries may have occurred when the children were playing rough.
As part of her sentence, Suggett will be on probation for five years and is prohibited from being around children, other than her relatives.
