TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - A new parent project in Trumbull County is working to teach moms, dads and caregivers the tools to change destructive adolescent behavior.

Trumbull County Family Court has partnered with Cadence Care Network and is offering the program to all parents in the community.

The idea began as a referral initiative to help parents of kids that became caught up in the juvenile justice system but has now expanded.

"We have a lot of good parents out there who just really don't know how to keep this kind of behavior under control," said Judge Sandra Harwood.

Parents participating in the program are known to experience a strengthened family unit, improved school attendance and better coping skills among other benefits.

"We get a lot of calls from parents that don't know who to turn to. We opened up the program to the public so parents out there can learn these coping skills and their children would never reach the Juvenile Justice Center," said Harwood.

The 10-week course has been rolled out in several states and it's free thanks to a grant.

"We want to do as much as we can to reach out with the goal that children never reach our doors."
