YOUNGSTOWN - Since 1989 the Rotary Club of Youngstown has been awarding local students who are attending Youngstown State University scholarships.

Today the club awarded ten seniors from surrounding high schools with a 500 dollar scholarship to Youngstown State University for the fall 2021 semester.

Also honored were two top juniors from each school who received a dictionary.

Seniors receiving scholarships are:

  • Steven Hiner - Cardinal Mooney
  • Cara McNally - Ursuline
  • Jamie Nelson - Ursuline
  • De'Janae Oliver - Rayen Early College
  • Colleen Rowland - Ursuline (Edward J.Hulme Scholarship)
  • Emily Smith - Ursuline
  • John Erik Vargo Cardinal Mooney

"WE ARE HERE TO SUPPORT ALL THINGS YOUNGSTOWN. THE EDUCATION SYSTEM MOST IMPORTANT BECAUSE AS A CLUB WE KNOW THAT OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM HAS TO BE STRONG ENOUGH TO GROW AS A CITY OVERALL SO WE LOVE GIVING BACK AND WE LOVE WORKING WITH OUR AREA SCHOOLS PRIVATE OR PUBLIC," said Samantha Turner, President of the Youngstown Rotary Club.

As the club's tradition, the WFMJ Spelling Bee champion Christopher Dominick was also honored at the event.
