Billions of dollars are available statewide in Ohio's newly announced transportation budget.

Of the $8 billion budget, $2.4 billion dollars has been allocated for local roads.

Mahoning County commissioners say they would like to spend part of that money widening Western Reserve Road.

Commissioners are hoping to attract federal dollars too.

Mahoning County Commissioner, Anthony Traficanti said, "A LOT OF THOSE PROJECTS ARE FEDERALLY FUNDED, SO HAVING THE LOCAL MONEY HELPS US GET THE MATCH AND THEN WE CAN DO A MULTIPLIER ON TOP OF THAT HAVING THE MATCH MONEY LOCALLY TO GET OPWC FUNDS, WHICH WOULD REALLY BE BIG BECAUSE WE COULD DO BRIDGES, UPGRADES, SANITARY SEWER LINES, EVEN WATER LINES.

21 News also asked about $44 million coming to the county from the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan.

Commissioner Traficanti says they've received no word on how that money can be spent.
