Mercer lawmaker opposes vaccine passports

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Mercer County lawmaker and two fellow Republicans have announced that they plan to sponsor a bill to prohibit the imposition of restrictions on Pennsylvanians who have not received a COVID-19 vaccination.
State Senator Michelle Brooks, who represents Mercer County, says she along with Senators Kristin Phillips-Hill and Judy Ward plan to introduce legislation that would prohibit Governor Wolf from implementing vaccine passports for residents.
In a joint statement, the Senators said that Pennsylvania has followed New York's lead on many mitigation strategies, adding that Governor Andrew Cuomo announced plans to implement a vaccine passport.
The Senators call a vaccine passport “an extreme government intrusion into people's personal lives.”
Similar bills have been proposed by two Republicans in Ohio.
Representatives Mike Loychik and Al Cutrona have co-sponsored legislation that would prohibit a requirement for citizens to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination before entering a certain area or establishment.
