Zallow hopeful of making Olympic tryouts

Warren JFK product Chad Zallow has had a lifelong dream to make the Olympic trials, and he'll have a chance to do it over the next five weeks.
Zallow, who rewrote the record books at Youngstown State in the 60-meter hurdles, is trying to make the tryouts in the 110 hurdles. The outdoor hurdles do not offer 60 meters.
"I'm in the process of running in meets and trying to get a qualifying time to make the trials, " said Zallow from Miami, Florida, where he's training and preparing to run this Saturday.
One of the technicalities in outdoor racing is wind aid. Zallow ran a 13.6 recently, but it doesn't count toward qualifying because of the wind at the time of the race.
"The wind has to be below two meters per second," said Zallow.
"I'm optimistic in making the tryouts," said Zallow, who'll try to qualify Saturday and, if not, has some races line up closer to Ohio over the next few weeks.
He has to have one of the top 32 times in the country before June. The trials are in Oregon starting June 23.
"It's extremely important to me. Growing up, my number one goal was to get to the Olympic Trials, and I'm confident I can do it this year."
Out of the top 32 competitors in the trials, only the top three make the United States team.
