New Middletown officer resigns after OVI conviction

A New Middletown Police Department sergeant who had been scheduled on Tuesday to answer charges related to a traffic accident made an early court appearance, where she was convicted and sentenced. Village Police Chief James Craven tells 21 News that Brooke McCon has resigned.
According to court records, Police Sgt. McCon, 26, appeared in Mahoning County Court in Boardman on Thursday where she pleaded guilty to refusing to submit to an OVI test. A charge of failing to keep an assured clear distance was dismissed.
In addition to being fined $375, McCon was sentenced to three days in jail, which can be avoided by taking part in a Driver Intervention Program.
Although McCon's driver's license was suspended for a year, she is being allowed to drive for work, school, and medical reasons.
McCon was placed on unpaid administrative leave following an April 9 traffic accident along Interstate 680 in Boardman.
Troopers say McCon's Toyota RAV 4 was northbound on I-680 when it rear-ended a Honda CRV.
She was arrested for refusing to submit to a field sobriety test and failing to maintain an assured distance.
McCon submitted her resignation to the New Middletown Police Chief last week.
Beaver Township Police Cheif Carl Frost tells 21 News that McCon resigned from his department on April 17.
