The journey through recovery can be challenging for those battling addiction or mental illness, with only 1/4 of those struggling with addiction actually seeking treatment. It's because of that, the mental health and recovery services board of Columbiana County hosted their 20th annual recovery conference, to celebrate achievements in recovery and to continue to offer resources to help in the process.

"It really means a lot to know that there are people that have gone through what you went through, that went through the same experiences that you went through and it really helps to know that you aren't alone," says Jennifer Whitman, the Director of Outreach and Community Relations for the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Columbiana County.

Those in attendance met in workshops to discuss topics like spirituality, the history of recovery, and recovery in Columbiana County.

One of the major takeaways and themes from today's conference was life after rehab; rejoining the workforce, resuming everyday life, and at the same time, remaining in recovery.

"Getting back into the workforce getting back into everyday life, but also paying it forward and being able to share and encourage other people in recovery as well. We want to reduce the stigma that's the big thing," says Erica Como, Director of the Peer Resource and Recovery Center.
