Hubbard residents protest proposed landfill project

HUBBARD TWP., Ohio - The Hubbard community is rallying once again to stop a landfill from taking up more than 200 acres in the township.
Private company Trans Rail America wants to put the landfill near Drummond Avenue and Mount Everett Road.
Residents say they're worried that the landfill will be too close to their homes - less than a quarter-mile away from the proposed site.
The worry of unknown trash trucked in from states like New York and New Jersey is also the cause for concern for many.
One man told 21 News if the landfill were to be approved he would at least like the trash to be dumped come from the Mahoning Valley.
Decreased property values and potential toxins from the landfill leaching into nearby water are the major issues residents are worried about.
Hubbard’s department of health will be voting on the issue at 6 p.m. Monday in the Hubbard City Council chambers.
