Quick thinking from a few South Range high school football players Tuesday as they helped to rescue a man who had flipped his truck on route 165.

At the intersection of routes 165 and 46 a group of South Range Football players are their way to practice witnessed a shocking scene, a truck flipped over with the driver still inside.

"We were in the middle of the intersection and we saw the truck flip over in the ditch. He went flying and we hurried up and pulled over, I called police as fast as I could," said sophomore, Zander Mercer.

"He said his power steering went out and he was trying to turn and it just turned over in the ditch," said senior, Connor Jones.

The driver was hurt and couldn't get out so Connor managed to climb on top of the truck cab and pull him out.

"If I were in an accident I would always look for somebody to help. When I saw him I said that guy needs help. He messed up one of his shoulders, said it hurt real bad," said senior, Logan Cormell.

"If I was in that situation i'd want someone to come and help me. If I was hurt and couldn't move I'd want someone to help me out," added Jones.

Police and emergency crews arrived soon after and thanked the teens for helping. Since the driver didn't suffer and severe neck or back injuries it was ok for him to be removed. And people trapped inside a vehicle after an accident, well, they just want to get out as soon as possible.

The players say they were just doing what they thought was the right thing to do as should anybody.

"You should work as hard as you can and if you ever see someone in need you help them. That's what South Range football is about pretty much," said Mercer.
