Clergy asking Youngstowners to report what they know about violence

YOUNGSTOWN - Following the latest 24 hours of violence that killed two people including a child, some of Youngstown’s prominent clergy members plan to send a message that it needs to end.
The United Pastors, Clergy, and Community Leaders of the Greater Youngstown Community have scheduled a press conference Thursday morning to address the recent escalation of violence in the city.
Pastor Kenneth L. Simon tells 21 News he will be joined by Rev. Lewis Macklin, Rev. Michael Harrison, Dr. Rosie Thompson-Taylor, and other church leaders at the New Bethel Baptist Church at 9 a.m.
Pastor Simon says that people need to take a stand against what he describes as an “outrage” in the city after a ten-year-old girl and a man were shot and killed on the South Side early Wednesday. Two more people were wounded on East LaClede Avenue late that same night.
In addition to sending a message to end the violence, the church leaders want neighbors to get involved and report what they see and know about violent crime to the police.
The message echoes the words of Mayor Tito Brown and Police Chief Carl Davis during their news conference held just hours after Wednesday's deadly shootings.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information about the shootings.
