Ohio State to require vaccine for all students and staff

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State University has announced Tuesday that all students and staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
This announcement is following the FDA's approval of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday.
According to the university's Twitter statement, more than 73% of students and faculty have received at least one dose of the vaccine already.
The deadline for students and staff to have received the first dose is Friday, Oct. 15 2021, and the deadline for the second dose is Monday, November 15 2021.
Exemptions from this requirement include health-related exemption with a note from a health care provider. These exemptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. There will also be exemptions for religious and personal reasons. All requests for these exemptions will be reviewed by Student Health Services or Employee Relations in conjunction with Employee Health.
If an exemption request is approved, individuals will be required to complete a virtual learning module on appropriate conduct to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus as an unvaccinated individual, complete weekly COVID testing until a determination is made that the risk of transmission in the community has reached a minimal level based on CDC criteria and wear a mask indoors at all times, even if the university updates their policy for fully vaccinated students regarding indoor masking.
Students who are not vaccinated by the deadline will be ineligible to participate in any on-campus activities including in-person classes or living in residence halls. Faculty who are not vaccinated by the deadline will lose all access to electronic resources such as logging into their computers and email and further progressive discipline.
21 News reached out to Youngstown State University and officials there said they are discussing this internally, but nothing has been implemented at this point. YSU's Director of Communications, Ron Cole's statement is below:
"We're in discussions internally and with our colleagues across the state and will continue to seek out the best information and feedback that we can from all constituents as we have throughout the pandemic. At this point, we think we have good protocols in place and look forward to a safe and successful reopening on Aug. 30."
