The Trumbull Career & Technical Center, known as TCTC, announced today their plans to introduce the Early Innovators Academy.

The academy offers project-based career exploration courses for ninth and tenth graders, focusing on STEM education.

"Innovation is at the forefront of career and technical education, and we are constantly looking for ways to ensure student success now and after graduation. The academy will allow us to expose students at a younger age to the instructional methods offered at a career-technical school," says TCTC superintendent Jason Gray.

The plan is to accept 50-ninth grade students for the 2022-2023 school year from all 20 partner school districts.

Then 50 new freshmen will be accepted during the 2023-2024 school year for a total of 100 new students by the 2023 school year. Acceptance will be determined on a first-come, first-serve basis, and enrollment will open in early December 2021.

"It will be very project-based, very hands-on and connected to the real world. During 9th grade year, they will get a taste of a lot of different things like Engineering, IT skills and communication," said Cara DeToro.

Students that attend the TCTC and its Early Innovators Academy remain a student of their current school district.

Continued participation in home school extracurricular activities, sports, and events are encouraged by TCTC.

As of right now, there are talks to possibly allow the 9th and 10th-grade students to earn college credits in the future.
