Political analysts weigh in on Ohio's new redistricting map drawings

Mahoning Valley - What will amount to losses for cities like Youngstown and Warren may be the townships and suburbs' gain, according to political analyst Doc Binning regarding Ohio's new redistricting map drawings.
Binning said for the suburbs, the new redistricting drawings will mean more representation, so things like federal funding could more easily secured.
"The rural areas and the suburban areas will have a very strong voice because they will be dominant," Binning said.
For the cities though, there is less opportunity to grow through annexation and overall enhancement. That's because in their new districts, cities will fall into Democratic districts that are solidly in the minority in the statehouse. Meanwhile, the suburbs will be in larger, majority-Republican districts.
"The cities aren't going to have a lot of say, they've been continuing to lose power," he said.
However, Ohio Democrats are likely to challenge the whole map in court since they say it gives an unfair advantage to Republicans.
