YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Butler Institute of American Art is showing two series of works by the late local artist, Joy White.

This series was created in the final month of White's and provides a visual expression of White's experience with her terminal ovarian cancer.

The exhibition is titled Joy White: The Small Hours, and is composed of 19 works.

Her exhibit opens Sunday, September 19, and will be on view through October 17, in the Butler's Davis Gallery on the second floor.

"The Small Hours" exhibit will also include a 22 piece series composed of White's mixed media artwork titled "The Containment Series." Both series were inspired by White's path through Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Each piece of artwork represents a step or thought, emotion, action, or reaction through a phase of White's life with a terminal illness.

Visitors can view the exhibit during The Butler's regular public hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., Sunday, 12:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.

Admission is free.
