HOWLAND, Ohio - At about 5 p.m. on Thursday, Howland Police received several calls about a naked man running around the area of Crestview Avenue.
According to a police report, the man later identified as Brandon Smith, was seen laying in the street, then dancing, and screaming while running down the road.
Officers arrived at a home in the 3000 block of Crestview Avenue. That's where they found Smith in the backyard. The report says, Smith was "completely nude and running in circles and rolling around on the ground." Smith then "got on a trampoline and began jumping."
According to the report, the officer ordered Smith to get off the trampoline and get on the ground. The officer says Smith then jumped off the trampoline and ran around to the front of the house and onto the roadway.
When the officer caught up with Smith, Smith was ordered to get on the ground or the officer would use his taser. Once police had Smith in custody they noted Smith's "pupils were pinpoint" and said he had a "blank stare."
A woman in the area also reported that Smith had smashed out the window of her vehicle.
The victim said that she had been stopped at a stop sign at the corner of Valacamp and Boston Avenues when she saw Smith running towards her, naked and carrying a wooden stick. The victim said, Smith then smashed out the drivers side window of her Trailblazer. After the window was smashed out the victim said that she feared Smith was going to try and get in her car so she drove off.
EMS was called to the scene and Smith was transported for evaluation. A family member told police Smith suffers from mental illness.
Smith has been charged with criminal damaging and disorderly conduct.
