Struthers Rotary Club honors donors in Overlook Avenue beautification project

STRUTHERS, Ohio - The Struthers Rotary Club honored many donors who helped with a beautification project for Overlook Ave. in Struthers on Tuesday.
According to Karen Edwards, President of the Struthers Rotary Club, the organization reached out to the community and was able to have 20 donors donate 20 cherry blossom trees, along with four butterfly bushes for an island on the street.
"50 years ago, this island flourished with cherry blossom trees and we decided to reinvent the whole street, so we're very happy we were able to get the donors to do that," Edwards said.
Edwards went on to say that the butterfly bushes are for the Rotary International's "Operation Pollination."
"With this, the Rotary Internation has an 'Operation Pollination' initiative going where we plant waystations to help our monarch butterflies," Edwards said.
Edwards says the project will not end here. The Rotary Club plans to work with Tree City USA in an effort to create more cherry blossoms throughout the city.
"We're hoping to plant more trees in Mauthe Park. We have a beautiful disc golf course there, so it's going to be an ongoing project. That's for sure," Edwards said.
