YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Two men allegedly involved in an early September police pursuit that started in Struthers and ended in Poland have been indicted by the Mahoning County Grand Jury.

Nineteen-year-old Deandre Smith and his cousin, 18-year-old Larry Smith have been indicted on charges of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, inducing panic and obstructing official business.

Deandre Smith, the driver of the vehicle, is facing additional charges of vehicular assault and failure to comply with an order of a police officer.

Charges against the two stem from an attempted traffic stop that turned into a pursuit.

The pursuit started near Sami Quick Stop on Youngstown Poland Road and continued past Poland Seminary High School where a soccer match was taking place.

Police said the car eventually crashed into a guard rail and another vehicle on Route 170. Officers realized the cousins had guns on them as they fled, causing a lockdown of the sporting event.

Both men were apprehended a short time later and were sent to St. Elizabeth Youngstown for treatment.

Both cousins have been released from the Mahoning County Jail after posting bail.
