YOUNGSTOWN - Several roads in Mill Creek MetroParks will close to traffic Sunday to make way for the 47th annual Youngstown Peace Race.

The affected roads, listed below, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. this Sunday, October 17th to vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The Peace Race began in 1975 with a 25k run through Mill Creek, with the goal of bringing athletes around the world together for a day of competition and fellowship. Four decades later, the race consists of a 10k, a 2 mile, and a children's fun run. The goals of the event remain the same.

The events will kick off at 9 a.m. with a 200 meter kids fun run at the Federal Plaza in Downtown Youngstown. At 9:30 a.m., the 2 mile Walk/Run will take place along Mahoning Avenue, beginning and ending at Federal Plaza. Early registration for the 2 mile is $20, with day of registration costing $25.

The day's main event, the Peace Race 10k, will begin at 10 a.m., with the course running through scenic Mill Creek Park and ending at Federal Plaza. Early registration costs $30, with day of registration running $35.

A shuttle service will be available for 10k runners to transport them from the downtown YMCA to the starting line. The shuttle will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the last shuttle leaving the YMCA at 9 a.m.
