Valley Veteran's Day Events - 2021

Valley schools and organizations are honoring those who have served our country during Veteran's Day ceremonies scheduled for Thursday, November 11.
Below are some of those ceremonies.
Austintown
A group of Reserve Citizen Airmen, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, participating in a Veterans Day Program presented by the Diocese of Youngstown Funeral & Cemetery Services Office on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
The program will include the 910th Airlift Wing Base Honor Guard presenting the colors, accompanied by a member of the wing singing the national anthem; followed by the 910th's Base Chaplain presiding over a prayer service and a 910th Airlift Wing Public Affairs representative presenting a Veterans Day speech and a recognition of Servicemembers in attendance.
The Veterans Day Program will be presented as follows:
10:30 am at Resurrection Cemetery, 300 N. Raccoon Road, Austintown, Ohio 44515
The event is free and open to the public.
Austintown Fitch High School will hold its annual Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 11 at 8:30 AM in the Fitch High School Auditorium.
This year's speaker is Colonel Kevin C. Riley. Colonel Riley is the former Commander, 910th Mission Support Group, Air Force Reserve Command, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, having recently retired from the United States Air Force. He was responsible for the equipping and training of over 800 citizen airmen whose mission is to provide peacetime and wartime mission readiness support of the Air Force Reserve Command and the Air Mobility Command. Following his retirement, he served as the 910th Airlift Wing Community Partnership Director, responsible for the implementation of the Air Force Community Partnership Program between YARS and the neighboring communities. He is now the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Austintown Fitch High School.
All the public, veterans, and active-duty military are welcome to attend the ceremony.
Beloit
The West Branch Local School District is honoring Veterans by having a "Thank-You" drive-thru for those in the community. The event will be held on Thursday, November 11 from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at West Branch High School.
Veterans are invited to drive-thru West Branch High School's South parking lot for a small gift as a token of appreciation for service on Veterans Day. Veterans can drive up to the Fieldhouse lobby doors to receive the gift without ever leaving the car!
Boardman
Boardman School District's three elementary schools will be honoring local veterans with their own unique special events this year.
Stadium Drive Elementary will hold a clap out for Veterans on Thursday, November 11, at 8:45 AM inside of the school building on Thursday, Nov. 11. Students put out personal invites to current and former military members. More than 50 are expected. These invited family members and friends who serve/served our country will take a photo with their student and receive a grab-and-go muffin and coffee as a show of appreciation.
Boardman Glenwood Jr. High Veterans Day Assembly November 11
Mahoning County Municipal Court Judge Joe Schiavoni and the United States Marine Corps Major Jeff Cisek will be the featured speakers at a Veterans Day Assembly at Boardman Glenwood Junior High on Thursday, November 11 at 9:00 AM. Special video messages from both of Ohio's U.S. Senators are also planned.
Nearly 700 Glenwood students have extended open invitations to veterans and active duty service members who are relatives, neighbors, and friends. Administrators are hoping to fill the school gymnasium with as many of our valley veterans as possible for this school-wide event. Veterans interested in attending are asked to call the BGJHS Main Office at 330-726-3414 and provide their name along with their branch of military service. Masks are required for this indoor event.
West Blvd. Elementary will hold a Veterans' Drive Through Celebration on November 11 in the school parking lot. Students and staff will be outside with signs and messages at 12:45 PM. Veterans will drive through, receive a carnation and handwritten thank you notes from the students.
Cortland

East Palestine
A Veterans Day "Reverse Parade" will be taking place Thursday, Nov. 11 at 10 AM in the East Palestine School District. The entire school district’s staff and students will be lining the streets from the Public Library at 309 Market St, to the High School
Lisbon
The Lisbon Exempted Village Schools are inviting all area Veterans to attend their district-wide observance and celebration of Veteran's Day on Thursday.
The day-long schedule of events begins with a breakfast for Veterans at 9 a.m. at McKinley Elementary's cafeteria. 441 East Chestnut St. McKinley's 5th graders will perform patriotic songs during breakfast.
At 11 a.m., Veterans are invited to David Anderson's Jr./Sr. High School's auditorium, 260 West Pine St. for a student-produced Veteran's Day video presentation and refreshments.
Mercer
Mercer Elementary Veterans Day Program. November 11, 2021. Elementary Gymnasium 1:00 p.m. Doors open at Noon- Masks are required
New Wilmington
Westminster College's Office of Faith and Spirituality will feature local World War II veteran First Lt. Wallace "Wally" King at the College's annual Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in Wallace Memorial Chapel.
King, of New Wilmington, Pa., will serve as the ceremony's guest speaker. King served in the U.S. Army Air Corps-the predecessor of the Air Force. He was recently admitted to the Legion of Honor, France's highest honor, for his participation in the liberation of France from Nazi oppression as a member of the 9th Air Force's 406th Fighter Group.
During his time in France, King flew 75 combat missions, including close air support for Allied forces during the Siege of Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge. King was a founding partner of Hill, Barth & King CPAs, retiring in 1983.
The ceremony will also feature the Westminster Barbershop Quartet singing the "National Anthem," while "Taps" will be performed by Charles Lisella, a junior music education major from Harmony, Pa. Additional Westminster students will also serve as readers and ushers and will assist with the laying of the memorial wreath.
The Veterans Day program is free and open to the public, and area veterans are encouraged to attend.

North Jackson
Jackson-Milton Local Schools invites local Veterans to attend the district-wide Veteran's Day presentations on Thursday. Middle and high school students will honor alumni Veterans and relatives of staff who served in a video presentation at 9 a.m. in the middle/high school cafetorium followed by light refreshments. At 12:30 p.m. lunch will be hosted in the elementary cafeteria followed by a presentation at 1:45 p.m. There are two surviving World War II Veterans from the North Jackson/Lake Milton Community that is known to the district, one of which will attend Thursday's events. All local Veterans are welcome to attend.

Struthers
Struthers City Schools will recognize Veterans Day with a ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021.
The ceremony will be held at the Struthers Veterans Memorial, located at the corner of Morrison St. and Euclid Ave. in Struthers. The public is invited to attend.
The guest speaker for the ceremony will be National Commander Jan Brown.
Commander Brown served for 27 years in the U.S. Air Force before joining AMVETS, where she has worked her way up through the ranks to National Commander.
Youngstown
