The family of Jerome Christian is hurting and looking for answers after they received news that Christian had been hit by a car and left in the street, Monday night.

They initially found out about the incident from the Facebook post of a passerby.

"They said, check on your 'peoples' on the east side. An older man got hit on Lansdowne and Kimmel and his name is Jerome," said Christian's Aunt, Carmen Brown. "So it was like Facebook, whoever that person was, put it out," she said.

The family says they don't know how someone could do this and live with themselves. Meanwhile, Christian is fighting for his life.

"You hit him, but you kept going. All you had to do was stop, call 911, get him to the hospital. But they didn't," said Brown. "Right now he's in intensive care bleeding from the brain, stopped some of the blood from his pelvis. He's just in bad shape," she said.

Brown tells 21 News Christian walked the streets of his neighborhood everyday just to get a little exercise, but they never thought it would land him in the hospital. The family is left wondering how long he was out there before help arrived.

"To walk the streets and get hurt like this and left to die? And that's the way I take it. They left him there to die," Brown said.

Brown says she truly believes it was an accident and forgives the suspect, but she and the rest of the family are just pleading for the suspect to come forward with the truth.

"If it was a accident, we just need to know. You know, his kids want answers. He got, like I said, grandkids want answers, you know. They're interrupting a life, and it's sad," Brown said.

21 News has not yet received any details from police on the investigation.
