Fire destroys home on Youngstown's South Side

YOUNGSTOWN - A ramp from Interstate 680 is open again now that Youngstown Firefighters are done battling a house fire on the city's South Side.
Callers to 9-1-1 reported a fire in the area of Cooper and Union Streets shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The first firefighter to arrive reported heavy smoke coming from the home.
The fire department shut down the ramp from southbound I-680 to Indianola after a truck slid on the icy road surface. The ramp was open again at 8:30 a.m.
Investigators say fire crews were ordered to get outside of the vacant home after the roof began to collapse.
The fire was so far along at the home, firefighters allowed it to burn. The remnants of the structure will be torn down.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
