CANFIELD, Ohio - A Canfield man is once again putting on a Christmas light display for the whole neighborhood to enjoy with help from the community.

Mike McAndrew is the owner of Canfield Christmas Lights LLC, and has been putting on a neighborhood display on Fairview Ave. since 2005 as a way to escape after his parents died.

Since then however, his neighbors have encouraged McAndrew to make the display into a tradition.

"What really happened was I healed from that, but my neighbors want to keep going with this. So what you see on the street at every house, these are the neighbors who keep encouraging me to keep setting up and keep going," McAndrew said.

Over the years, the display has grown and gotten much larger. McAndrew tells 21 News the display was originally only at his house, but over time, over 30 more houses have offered McAndrew their yards for the production.

In addition, McAndrew holds an annual contest on Facebook in which children 12 years old and under can draw a picture of their own display.

From there, the audience votes on their favorite submissions and the top four will be turned into real displays for the showcase. This year's winners include the Grinch, "Run Run Rudolf," "Sonic the House" and "Cure T1D Snowman."

Submissions for the 2022 display are being accepted now through Christmas Day on the Canfield Christmas Lights LLC Facebook page. Following that, voting will be conducted from Sunday, Dec. 26 to Saturday, Jan. 1.

McAndrew tells 21 News he plans on moving on to commercial displays in the future rather than the neighborhood displays in light of him having his granddaughter.

This year, McAndrew has set up some commercial displays such as an Eiffel Tower for the Canfield Fairgrounds display. Others were featured in "Light up Night" on the Green in Canfield.
