A local school district is set to be released from fiscal emergency.

Niles City Schools will be released from fiscal emergency on January 27.

The district has been in state-declared fiscal emergency since February 2019.

The chairman of the commission overseeing the district's finances said Niles City Schools would be able to petition for release from fiscal emergency in March 2021.

In July, the Fiscal Planning and Supervision Commission for Niles voted unanimously to request the state auditor to lift the emergency declaration.

Niles Schools have been in fiscal watch or emergency for the better part of two decades.
