RAVENNA, Ohio -
Year-round local animals shelters encourage the adoption of dogs and cats in hopes that they will find their forever home. But, March 1st is dedicated to the pigs!
National Pig Day is an opportunity to celebrate domesticated pigs, and a nearby farm animal sanctuary is hoping several families may open their homes to one or some of their adoptable potbellied pigs.
Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna says they have 20 potbellied pigs searching for their forever home. Officials say there is currently a waiting list for intake of several deserving pigs who need the non-profit's attention and rehabilitation skills. But, to bring them in Happy Trails must find homes for at least three of the pigs.
"Pigs are such incredibly intelligent animals that can be taught tricks and would do just about anything for a good belly rub! They make wonderful additions to the family," said Donor Stewardship Coordinator Lissy Kuhn.
Here are some of the pigs available for adoption:
This is Jim. Jim is friendly, loves to snack on snow and has gotten along with every person he has met.
This is Finn. Finn is under one year.
This is Gordy. Gordy is snacking on watermelon which pigs love as a treat in the summer. He has been at Happy Trails for about six years. They would love to see him find a good family.
If anyone is interested in adopting a pig, or other farm animals, they can visit the Happy Trails website for all information and an online application.
