YOUNGSTOWN -  The Mahoning County Dog Warden is trying to find out who shot a dog found on Youngstown’s West Side over the weekend.

The dog, found Sunday curled up against a home on Cherry Hill Avenue, appeared to have a puncture wound to the head.

First taken to the dog pound, the dog was then transported to a veterinarian, according to the charity Friends of Fido.

The dog, which volunteers have named “Pizza,” was found to have a bullet lodged in his teeth.

After being treated for infection, fractured teeth, and a broken lower jaw, Pizza was taken back to the pound.

Anyone with information about how the dog was shot is asked to call 330-740-2205 or email ssabol@mahoningcountyoh.gov.

Meanwhile, Friends of Fido is asking for donations to cover the costs of veterinary care.
