YOUNGSTOWN - A court case involving the shooting death of a Chaney High School graduate three and a half years ago has come to an end.

Myckle Hughes, 24, of Campbell, was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery on Tuesday.

Hughes had been scheduled to go on trial next week for the shooting death of 18-year-old Sean Bell on the city’s east side.

Bell’s body was found in a car along Oak Street Extension on August 21, 2018.

Detectives say Hughes was in the car with the victim, and after the shooting, allegedly grabbed a bag of marijuana and two cell phones and fled.

In September 2020, a mistrial was declared in the Hughes case after some jurors heard the victim's mother crying and yelling "if my child was white and from Poland."

An appeals court denied Hughes' claim that a second trial would place him in double jeopardy.  The Ohio Supreme Court refused to hear the case.
