A mother and her boyfriend were sentenced Thursday for the death of a two year old boy.
This comes nearly four years after Youngstown detectives say the boy became unresponsive after the mother called for an ambulance to come to a north side home.

Sharday Bing Dixon, 35 and Derek Carter Jr., 29, stood before judge Anthony D'Apolito Thursday afternoon.

Bing Dixon pleaded guilty to permitting child abuse and involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
Carter, who had pleaded guilty to child endangering, was sentenced to four years in prison.

According the the coroner's office, 2 year old Sebali Bing Dixon died from internal bleeding due to lacerations caused by a crushed abdomen from blunt forced trauma over a period of time.

There was evidence of significant injures to the boy long before his death, including a significant head injury when he was just one and also a partially healed leg fracture.
Authorities said all the injuries were non-accidental.

The prosecutor on the case says we will likely never know just how the child got the injuries that killed him but she feels justice was served.

"There was evidence that there was continued abuse not just from this but ongoing abuse we don't know how far back," said Caitlyn Andrews.

Dixon and Carter were originally charged with murder before a plea agreement was made with the prosecutor's office.
