BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio -

A portion of a Boardman Township roadway that his been closed for nearly a year has reopened.

In July of 2021, Boardman officials announced that they closed a portion of Wildwood Drive until further notice.

The section of Wildwood had been closed between Market Street and Glenwood Avenue because experts feared a culvert beneath the pavement was weakening and could collapse.

"The culvert finally got repaired, the concrete shored," said Township Administrator Jason Loree.

The township had removed two homes in the area of Wildwood as part of its ongoing flood mitigation efforts.

Those efforts still continue. This summer, the township hopes to begin work to realign the nearby creek to handle more capacity.

"The stream will be pushed towards the center of the property, expanding the flood plain, and then we will be coming back in and like replanting and reinforcing the whole site," said Loree. "When we do that we will be using a lot specimens that can hold up to the flooding. What was there before was a lot of diseased and a lot of trees and things that just weren't meant for that type of water flow."

The township is waiting on permits from the Army Corp. of Engineers.

In the meantime, another township roadway will close for culvert repairs. On Monday a portion of S. Cadillac Dr. will close for about two weeks.
