The Navy has changed the status of 13 Sailors lost when the USS Indianapolis was sunk in 1945 from “Unaccounted for” to “Buried at Sea,” Navy Casualty announced Friday.

One of the men whose status was changed included a former Niles sailor, Angelo Anthony Sudano, who was a Petty Officer Third Class who was declared dead while missing in the waters off Guam in the Philippine Sea. The USS Indianapolis sank July 30, 1945 after being struck by two Japanese torpedoes.

Sudano's job on the ship is listed as Ship's Service Man Laundryman 3rd Class.
