1997: Twenty NFL players, led by Miami Dolphins Quarterback Dan Marino, play in the Kara Morris Celebrity Golf Tournament at Sharon Country Club. The money raised will go toward a liver transplant for Kara. 
 
The city of Hubbard receives an AAA rating -- the highest ranking from Moody's and Standard and Poor’s --  for the sale of $5.7 million in sewer system bonds. 
 
The Donald Lockett VFW Post 6488 in Youngstown celebrates its 40th anniversary. The black veterans' group has as one of its primary missions to teach others about the contributions black soldiers made in wars throughout American history. 
 
1982: Operations at the K mart distribution center are scheduled to open in Bazetta Township in mid-July. More than 2,000 people have been interviewed for an anticipated 250 jobs. 
 
An explosion and fire at two Midwest Fireworks Co. buildings in Deerfield injure three people, one seriously. The loss is estimated at $1 million.

1972: Three boys and a girl who were arrested for smashing more than 100 windows at Bennett School in Youngstown say they did so because they were bored. 
 
A Mahoning County jury of six men and six women is released after being deadlocked over a verdict in the trial of James Anderson,  charged with seven counts of first-degree vehicular homicide in last  November's tragedy in which a car mowed down pedestrians on the sidewalk in downtown Youngstown.
 
Dick Foster returns as the official in charge of the National Weather Service at Youngstown Municipal Airport. 
 
 
1947: Only 37 of the 50 victims of a Capital Airlines crash in Virginia have been identified and the other 13 may be buried in a common grave. 
 
Youngstown College will receive 8,500 square feet of federally financed temporary building space for use as a cafeteria and recreation room, says U.S. Rep. Michael J. Kirwan.
