The City of Canfield is conducting a "smoke test" of their sewer system next week.

Testing will happen between June 27 and July 1 for a few hours during those days.

Smoke test surveys help inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in the sewer system.

During the tests, smoke shouldn't enter your home unless there is a defect in your home's plumbing system or you have drain traps that have dried up.

Homeowners are recommended to slowly pour a gallon of water into each floor drain and into other rarely used drains before the smoke test.

If the smoke does get into your home, notify the work crew immediately. If you are not home during testing and come home to find smoke, call Canfield Police at 330-533-4903.

While the smoke is not harmful, it's recommended that people with heart and respiratory issues leave the home during testing.
