Campbell community center to expand services

A Campbell community center is expanding the services it already offers.
A groundbreaking was held there Monday morning for a new expansion project that will offer health services for children.
The Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center already offers educational classes, health clinics, recreation and a library.
This new expansion will add space for Akron Children's Hospital to offer pediatric and mental health services as well as more classroom space for Eastern Gateway Community College.
"Now we also see a lot of young people face social and emotional challenges and also trauma that exists in all communities and statistically in our region and across the nation this is a void. We need to provide better services and Akron Children's is going to come and fill that void," said Campbell school superintendent, Matt Bowen.
"This is needed in Mahoning County. We need to take care of our children, infants and elderly. It's very important," said Mahoning Co. Commissioner, Carol Rimedio-Reghetti.
The facility is the first of its kind...a government-funded place offering so many different services. State Senator Michael Rulli says city planners are asking him how they can do it in their community.
"I think the more time that goes by you're going to see a lot of studies done on the Campbell facility to see what kind of returns they got. I think you're going to see 3-4 projects in the next 2-3 years that mimic this," said Rulli.
Construction will be finished and Akron Children's will start their pediatric service there by early next summer.
