Lauren McNally wins Democratic nomination for 59th District Representative

Mahoning Valley - Lauren McNally held off challengers Ronald Shadd, John Dyce and Wayne Penny Jr. to secure the Democratic nomination for the 59th District State Representative seat.
No Republican filed to run in the primary election.
McNally will still have some competition in the November election from two independent candidates, Poland Township trustee Eric Ungaro and Greg Beight, owner of Masternick-Courtney vending.
The 59th District includes Beaver, Beloit, Coitsville, Ellsworth, Poland and Youngstown among other areas in Mahoning County and the northwest region of Columbiana County.
Candidate backgrounds
Lauren McNally has served on Youngstown City Council as the 5th ward councilwoman for the last seven years. She said her priority is to work with area schools and help local youth. She's endorsed by Emily's List, Safe Communities Coalition, Matriots and Communication Workers of America District 4.
Ronald Shadd served on the Youngstown School Board for eight years and held the title of Board President. He was endorsed by the Youngstown Vindicator and Youngstown-Warren Black Caucus.
John Dyce is a U.S. Navy veteran and a former mailman. He is currently the President of the Ohio State Association of Letter Carriers. He previously ran for state representative in the 5th district in 2016 and 2018.
Wayne Penny Jr. is a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. He is employed at Associates Counseling and Child Guidance in Sharon and as an actor and stuntman for Paramount Productions.
