1997: Diane Sauer, owner of Martin Chevrolet in Warren for three years, says being a woman owning a major car dealership hasn't been a big deal.
 
Ed Barron, the Mahoning County jury commissioner, recalls his previous work as an announcer and newsman at WFMJ radio and TV. He says in the early days, TV reporters would take Polaroid photos of news scenes and then put the pictures on a pedestal to illustrate the story. 
 
Youngstown Municipal Judge Louis Levy says he will retire from the bench sometime in October and will be looking for a retirement home, likely in Washington State. 
 
1982: In a special election, Boardman voters reject a 7-mill school levy by a margin of 3-to-1. 
 
About 25 residents of the Mahoning County Nursing Home and 10 employees attend a meeting of the Mahoning County commissioners, who have announced that the home will be closed by the end of the year. Commissioners assure the residents that they will receive equal or better care after the home is closed. 
 
In Trumbull County, three school levies were on a special ballot in Hubbard, Champion, and Bristol. All were defeated. 
 
1972: The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio denies a request by Ohio Edison Co. to discontinue steam heat service in Youngstown by 1975.
The Youngstown Board of Education hires 23 teachers, of whom seven are beginners. 
 
The leadership of the United Steelworkers of America, the third largest labor union in the nation, will sit out the presidential election, a major blow to the Democratic nominee, George McGovern. 
 
1947: Youngstown appoints six cadet firemen: John P Lyden, Greg Bucilla, Wallace R. Powell, John B. Lloyd, William Howe, and Joseph Malesky. Four are steelworkers, one a salesman, and one a laborer. 
 
Sharon Steel Corp. plans to install a new electric furnace in Lowellville.
