Water outages in Girard plague Trumbull Avenue neighborhoods

The replacement of a large water line in Girard is leading to some water woes for people who live along Trumbull Avenue.
Matt Stone tells us people there are experiencing long hours of having no water service at all.
People who live along Trumbull Avenue say they've been without water for much of the week at times not being able to shower, bathe, do dishes or even do any laundry.
Diana Magda says it's been particularly hard for her to deal with the water loss since she's confined to wheel chair and has a problems buying large containers of water to use where she lives.
"Financially, it's a big strain to have to purchase bottled water especially that much where you're gonna have to wash in or do dishes with or whatever," said Magda.
On Sunday. the fire department passed out water to people in the area.
The cause of the problem is the replacement of a hundred year old main water line on Trumbull avenue which then feeds water to all the side streets.
"The pressure is so much greater now that it was in the past some of the older water lines cannot handle the increased pressure so we've had 3 water line breaks in the last few days that have shut down the entire neighborhood," said Mayor James Melfi.
The final set of new water line connections are expected to be completed within the next week which will mean water will be need to be shut off for at least one more day for those Girard customers. Then they will have have to adjust pressure to the older lines as needed.
"We just don't know when the next one pops. We are working on pressure as far as adjusting the valves," said Melfi.
The mayor says the problem should stop any day now and then customers should notice no more outages but much better water pressure.
