Youngstown Area Jewish Federation to shine light on antisemitism Wednesday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will join other local and national organizations to shine a light on antisemitism Wednesday.
November 9th is the anniversary of Kristallnacht, also known as "the Night of Broken Glass."
"The Night of Broken Glass" was a wave of violent pogroms against Jews throughout Germany and Austria that took place on November 9 and 10, 1938.
According to the release, on the night of November 9, the Gestapo told local police about the actions against Jews and their synagogues that would be taking place throughout Nazi Germany and to not interfere with what was happening.
During that time, violent mobs attacked Jews, murdering nearly 100 and seriously injuring many more.
More than 7,000 Jewish businesses and hundreds of synagogues were destroyed, cemeteries were desecrated, schools were vandalized, and more than 30,000 Jews were taken to concentration camps.
The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation invites the community to shine a light on antisemitism with them on November 9.
