U.S. Marshals: Man wanted by authorities in Puerto Rico arrested in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A man wanted by authorities in Puerto Rico has been arrested in Youngstown Wednesday afternoon.
Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Robert Rodriguez-Maldonado at the 3500 block of Desoto Avenue in Youngstown for attempted murder.
Marshals say in February of 2021, officers in Puerto Rico conducted a traffic stop on Rodriguez-Maldonado's vehicle, which turned into a high-speed chase where he allegedly shot two officers.
Marshals say one of the officers was struck by a bullet, but did not sustain any life-threatening injuries and has since recovered.
During Wednesday's arrest, Marshals say Rodriguez-Maldonado barricaded himself inside the attic of the residence, but Marshals were eventually able to locate and arrest him.
U.S. Marshal, Pete Elliott says thanks to the efforts of the task force, another dangerous individual has been taken off the streets.
"Based off of his actions in Puerto Rico, when encountered by police and then again today, it is obvious that he will do anything to avoid being arrested and does it with no regard for the safety of the officers involved," Elliott said.
