ByHeart has issued a recall of five batches of its baby formula due to possible cross-contamination of Cronobacter Sakazakii.

According to the company, none of the company's distributed products tested positive for any contaminants and the company has received no reports of illness related to the product at this time.

Cronobacter bacteria can cause severe life-threatening infections such as sepsis or meningitis. Symptoms of sepsis and meningitis may include poor feeding, irritability, temperature changes, jaundice, grunting breaths and abnormal movements.

Additionally, Cronobacter infections can also cause bowel damage and may spread through the blood to other parts of the body.

ByHeart is assuring parents that this recall is not related to the company's own manufacturing in any way and that the company has not received any illness complaints at this time.

The company says no additional action needs to be taken if your child has already consumed the formula.

However, if your child begins experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, call your pediatrician and then call the FDA complaint coordinator to report a product related illness. You can also complete an online form here.
