Penguins impress at CSCAA Open Water Championships

Highlighted by Miriam Frass's fourth-place finish and Gavin Webb's eighth-place finish, the Youngstown State men's and women's swimming programs turned in impressive performances at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships on Sunday morning.
Frass clocked a 58:23.68 in her incredible top-5 performance out of a talented national field of 110 swimmers in the women's 5k. With her remarkable finish, she qualifies for nationals, earning a spot in the USA Swimming 5k Open Water Championships.
The men finished seventh out of 15 teams, with all five Penguins placing in the top 51. In Webb's top-10 finish out of 83 talented swimmers, he swam a 5k time of 55:55.00.
Crispy Barton was the next Penguin to finish in the men's 5k, clocking a time of 57:36.68 to finish 23rd. Brenden Reeves swam a time of 59:54.91 to place 45th.
Dominic Bono and Christian Taylor finished back-to-back at 50th and 51st, respectively. Bono clocked a 1:00:26.26 while Taylor finished with a time of 1:00:26.84.
In the women's 5k, Hailey Clark and Brooke Schuette finished 98th and 99th, respectively. Clark clocked a 1:06:39.57 while Schuette finished with a time of 1:06:40.19.
Overall, the women finished 16th out of 21 teams.
On Saturday, January 7, the swimming squads will return to the pool when the women square off against Duquesne while the men face Niagara at Towers Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa. A day prior, the men's and women's diving programs will be in action at home, facing Duquesne on Friday, January 6, at 11 a.m. in the Beeghly Natatorium.
